Step 3 of 4: Income

Your result

Based on your answers:

4$44,550
5$52,218

Program path

Qualifying Programs in Detail

If anyone in your household takes part in one of these, income doesn’t matter. You qualify.

🛒

SNAP / EBT

Food benefits. Your EBT card or award letter works as proof. This is the most common path.

🏥

Medicaid

Health coverage, including CHIP in most states. Your Medicaid ID is enough.

♿

SSI

Supplemental Security Income. Your award letter confirms eligibility.

🏠

Federal Housing Aid

Section 8 vouchers and public housing assistance both count.

🎖️

Veterans Pension

VA pension benefits, including the Survivors Pension for families.

🍼

WIC

Nutrition help for pregnant women, new mothers, and young children.

On Tribal lands, extra programs qualify too (BIA assistance, Tribal TANF, Food Distribution Program), with a higher $34.25 monthly benefit.

Be prepared

Documents You’ll Need

Gather these before you start the National Verifier application. Having them ready is the difference between a 10-minute approval and a week of back-and-forth.

  • Photo ID — driver’s license, state ID, or passport
  • Proof of address — utility bill, lease, or official mail with your name
  • Proof of eligibility — benefits award letter, or pay stubs / tax return for the income path
  • Social Security number — last 4 digits, entered on the secure verifier site only
Keep it safe: only enter these details on the official National Verifier website or a provider’s secure application page. Never share them over social media messages or with anyone who contacts you first.
Don’t give up

Denied? Here’s Usually Why (and the Fix)

Most denials are paperwork issues, not real ineligibility. These are the common ones.

📝 Address mismatch

Your ID shows a different address than your application. Fix: update your address with the benefits office first, then reapply.

👥 Household confusion

Someone at your address already has Lifeline, but you’re a separate household. Fix: complete the independent-household worksheet on the verifier site.

📄 Unclear documents

Blurry photos or expired letters get rejected fast. Fix: resubmit clear, current documents.

⏳ Benefits not yet active

You applied for SNAP but it’s still processing. Fix: wait for approval, or try the income path with pay stubs instead.
